New Business Tools: It’s How Facebook Roles

As we all know, Facebook is continuously making changes to better the end-user experience. The most recent round of Facebook additions, however, are all about business.

For the past few years, all business page admins were created equal. Everyone could edit the page. Now, each admin has a role with its own level of accessibility. This is great for a business that has dozens of people working on their page but doesn’t want to grant complete access to everyone.

The new roles – Manager, Content Creator, Moderator, Advertiser and Insights Analyst — have various degrees of power:

  • Manager
    • Manage admin roles
    • Edit the page and add apps
    • Create Posts as the page
    • Respond to and delete comments
    • Send messages as the page
    • Create ads
    • View Insights
  • Content Creator
    • Edit the page and add apps
    • Create Posts as the page
    • Respond to and delete comments
    • Send messages as the page
    • Create ads
    • View Insights
  • Moderator
    • Respond to and delete comments
    • Send messages as the page
    • Create ads
    • View Insights
  • Advertiser
    • Create ads
    • View Insights
  • Insights Analyst
    • View Insights

To assign roles to your admins, go to the Admin Panel and click the Edit Page drop-down menu; you will see the new feature immediately.

In a separate move to give businesses more flexibility in how they manage their pages, Facebook now enables scheduling posts in advance. Until now, many social media managers relied on applications such as HootSuite or WordPress to do this.

With this new scheduling feature built into Facebook, managers can program at least a week's worth of posts in advance without having to revisit and manually post each day.

The scheduling feature is easy to use; in the post box, click the clock in the lower left corner, then write and schedule your post. It sure beats paying for software, or staying awake until midnight just to post an update on Facebook!
